Wärtsilä and their EPC partner were awarded the turnkey contract to build the 58 MW Power Station near Port Moresby.

The plant is planned to run on six of Wartsila’s natural gas-fired 34SG engines and to provide baseload power for the local grid through a new 66 kV transmission line and substation network.

Gas for the plant will be supplied by ExxonMobil’s PNG LNG project. The plant is expected to be completed in late 2018.
